254SMO Alloy Features:
High molybdenum content and high chromium and nitrogen content makes 254SMO a very good resistance to corrosion and crevice corrosion resistance of the performance. The addition of copper improves the corrosion resistance in certain acids. In addition, due to its high nickel content and high chromium and molybdenum content, the 254SMO has excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
1. A large number of field experiments and extensive experience have shown that even at slightly elevated temperatures, 254SMO also has high resistance to crevice corrosion in seawater, and only a few types of stainless steel have this property.
2. The corrosion resistance of 254SMO in acidic solutions and oxidizing halide solutions such as paper bleaching can be comparable to that of nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys with the highest corrosion resistance.
3. Because 254SMO has a high nitrogen content, its mechanical strength is higher than other types of austenitic stainless steel. In addition, 254SMO also has a high ductility and impact strength and good weld ability.
4. The high molybdenum content of the 254SMO enables it to have a higher oxidation rate at the time of annealing, resulting in a rugged surface that is more rougher than conventional stainless steel after pickling. But this has no adverse effect on the corrosion resistance of the steel.
